Week 7: Heavenly Father Loves Me

Morning Meeting: I love how we are learning about Heavenly Father's love on Valentine's Day. Talk about different ways we people show us love and how we can show love to others. Talk about Heavenly Father's love for you and your children. Sing the song: "I Know Heavenly Father Loves Me." Use these darling Song Cards (from The Cozy Red Cottage) as you sing the song together.

Family Home Evening:

1) Teach dad about our morning meeting.

2) Heavenly Father's Love. Heavenly Father shows us His love in many ways. We are going to do an activity to find the most important way He shows His love for us. Have your children use vinegar to find the letters "H-I-S S-O-N" inside these baking soda hearts. You'll need:
  • Plastic Letters (H-I-S S-O-N) - I found ours at the Dollar Store
  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 teaspoons dish soap
  • 5-6 tablespoons water (add one tablespoon at a time)
  • A few drops of food coloring
Mix baking soda, salt and dish soap together in bowl. Add the water (make sure to add the water 1 tablespoon at a time - you want the mixture to be just wet enough to hold the mixture together. If it's too wet, it will take a much longer time to dry) and food coloring. Mix together. I placed the letter and mixture inside a 1-inch cookie cutter to shape them. You could also use your hands. Allow to dry if possible. Mine dried for 8 hours.

When you're ready to use the hearts, place them on a cookie sheet. Have your children squirt vinegar onto the hearts to find the missing letters. Once you find them, spell out H-I-S S-O-N.

Note: If you need something more simple, consider printing this Jesus Puzzle (found in the Heavenly Father Loves Me PDF). Cut it out and hide the pieces around the room for your child to find and put together. The first option you can cut out as many or little pieces yourself, the second option has puzzle pieces printed for you.

3) Scripture & Activity. Read John 3:16 together. Use the printable below (found in the Heavenly Father Loves Me PDF) and have your children write their names in place of "the world" in the scripture. Hang on the fridge as a reminder of the lesson this week.

4) Sing "He Sent His Son" and have your children hold up a picture of Jesus every time they hear the word SON. A picture of Jesus is also included in the PDF. I like the song, because it gives examples of how Heavenly Father shows His love through His Son.

5) Heart Sugar Cookies.
