General Conference Game Plan

Image
This year, I am testing a couple different ideas in effort to help my children get something out of General Conference. I want it to be engaging, lots of fun, and a positive experience for them. The first thing we need to think about is a good breakfast. We are making these Cinnamon Rolls from Amber’s Kitchen. They are heaven in dough form. Next, do you want to be apart of a Tent Challenge? Make a simple or extravagant tent to remember King Benjamin’s speech as the people listened to a prophet. This would be a fun tradition for kids to look forward to every General Conference. You can buy actual tickets at the Dollar Store or use the ones provided for you (page 3 - print on white or colored card stock). Either at the end of each talk or the end of each session, we are go...

Special Witnesses & General Conference

Image
This week is going to be a little different from what I normally share. In our family, we usually talk about something gospel related in the morning during breakfast. We read from The Friend Magazine, or from our Primary Scriptures Book, or a story from a simplified Book or Mormon, or read a couple verses from The Book of Mormon as I share something I learned from my scripture study. Here’s our daily plan this week. FREE Download:  Special Witnesses PDF Monday: Book of Mormon Prophets knew Jesus and were “Special Witnesses” of Him . What is a prophet? A prophet is someone who is called of God to teach and testify of Jesus Christ. We call them “special witnesses.” Throughout history, God has always called prophets to teach of Christ — in the Bible, the Book of Mormon and even today. The Book of Mormon prophets knew of Christ and taught about Him, even before He lived on earth. Play the Matching Game. Cut out the pictures and scripture references on page 3. Show the fou...

Pretzels & Prayers (Enos)

Image
Pretzels and Prayers. If you're looking for a fun and interactive family home evening lesson or "Sunday Church", we loved this one. You read about Enos and talk about how his "soul hungered". You relate being physically hungry to being spiritually hungry. What do we do when we're hungry? We eat. What did Enos do when his soul hungered? He prayed.  Children learn a story about a monk and why he gave his students PRETZELS as a reward for their memorized prayers. Make pretzels with your children (recipe included). While you're waiting for the dough to rise, hide the printed pretzel puzzle pieces around the room and have your children find them. Put the puzzle together. One at a time, choose a puzzle piece and answer the question on the puzzle piece relating to prayer.  A prayer chart is included, if you want something tangible to remember prayer throughout the week. You can view a video tutorial on my instagram page: newswithnaylors. FREE Download: Pretz...

Click to Download: I Can Share PDF Prayer : Song : “I’m Trying to be Like Jesus” (Children’s Songbook p.78) Introduction : Bring something to share (a treat or a toy) for the class or family night. Share it with the children and ask them how they feel when you share with them. Talk about how it made you feel to share as well. Why do you think Heavenly Father wants us to share? Scripture (Jacob 2:17-18) : Explain that some of the people in Jacob’s time were very rich, but they didn't want to share what they had with those who were poor. Read the verses and discuss them. Parable of the Spoons (page 3) : Read this story before hand, so you can easily share the meaning with your children/primary class. Give a brief introduction to the story and ask the children to listen for how the people in Heaven shared . ( It's a story about heaven and hell, and how the people there were given very long spoons to eat a delicious stew. The spoons were so long, no one coul...
