Letter X: X-Ray Bones Craft, Puffy Bone Soap (Day 3)

Image
We reviewed a few of our X-Ray pictures and books today, before the following activities: 1)  X-Ray Bone Craft  from Storytime Katie: I love that this craft includes our letter we're learning this week! It was simple to make. Easton helped me glue two strips of black paper onto our project to make a letter X. I cut out a bunch of bones, but Easton put the glue on the bones and put them on his paper all by himself. 2) Puffy Bone Soap : If you haven't tried microwaving Ivory Soap, make some time to try it! Easton loved watching the reaction and couldn't wait to touch and play with the soap. Look at what happens when you microwave Ivory Soap (top left & right). After some playing time, Easton was ready to make our bone soap molds. Mix water in little by little until the soap JUST comes together into little balls - it will look like pie dough crust. Add food coloring if desired. Push the soap into the bone molds and wait until the bone soap dries.

Introduction, Helpful Tips, Weekly Planning

Image
1) Introduction: About a year ago, I started a "Letter of the Week" Series for my 18-month old. He learned so much as I worked (more so played!) with him on a daily basis - He learned to recognize all the uppercase letters and sounds, numbers 1-10, major shapes, and colors. He also learned through songs, books, sensory play and tons of crafts. Around the same time we started our series, I had a baby. While the baby took a morning nap, I enjoyed having engaging "one on one" time activities to do with my toddler. We had to be home anyway. You can find the majority of the activities we did last year on our Themes Index . My once 18-month old will turn 3 soon! Follow along as I post what we do each week on our Letter of the Week: Age 3 . 2) Helpful Tips: My inspiration in the letter of the week series started from The Measured Mom . Her website has countless ideas and resources (including free printables!) for teaching children. She is a celebrity in my books. If you...

FHE: Missionaries

Image
Prayer : Song : "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission" from the Primary Children's Songbook page 169. Click the link to sing along . Picture & Scripture : Hold up a picture of Jesus Christ . Tell your children that there are people on the earth who don't know about Jesus Christ. They have never heard of Him. Jesus Christ loves all people on the earth. He wants everyone to know about his true church. That's why Heavenly Father calls missionaries ... to teach other people in the world about Jesus Christ and His church. Jesus said, "And this gospel shall be preached unto every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people." ( D&C 133:37 ) World Map Picture : Here is a picture of the world . Missionaries can be called to serve in almost any part of the world. It makes Heavenly Father and Jesus happy when missionaries are willing to teach others about Jesus and His church. Talk about if you or your spouse served a mission and show your children...

FHE: I Belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

This lesson contains ideas from the current nursery manual, Behold Your Little Ones. Click the link to view the original lesson, " I Belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ". Prayer : Picture #1 : "To teach with pictures, first tell the children what or who is in the picture. Point out details in the picture to engage the children's attention. Invite children to repeat one or two words with you." Display the picture of Jesus Christ below. Point and ask them who it is. Answer: Jesus Christ. Scripture : Tell the children that Jesus told us the name of the Church in the scriptures. Open the scriptures and read D&C 115:4 - "For thus shall my church be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Invite the children to repeat the name of the Church with you, a few words at a time. Hold up your scriptures and tell the children that Jesus tells us what He wants us to know in the scrip...

Letter F: Booklist

Image
Fancy Nancy by Jane O'Connor: This book is about a little girl who loves everything fancy. She uses fancy words and loves to dress up. She is determined to help her family become fancy as well, by teaching a class about wearing dresses and looking fancy. Cute story. The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss: We love all Dr. Seuss books! The rhymes, illustrations and creativity are amazing in all of his books. Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London: My three still enjoyed this book this year, but last year it was an even bigger hit. This book is about a little frog who wants to go outside to play in the snow. However, every time he goes out to play his mother reminds him he is forgetting something to wear. My three enjoys the humor in this book.  Too Many Frogs! by Sandy Asher: This was one of my favorite books, because of the moral of the story. It's about a rabbit who lives alone, who enjoys his alone time reading and keeping things tidy around his house. On...

Letter E: Booklist

Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles: This book is about an emu, named Edward, who wants to be seen at the zoo. Edward goes into different zoo animal cages, trying to resemble the animal inside the cage. However, when he returns to his own cage, he finds a very pleasant surprise! My boy (ages 3, 1) both love this story.  Edwina the Emu by Sheena Knowles: This is a sequel to the book above and my three especially loved this book! It's about Edwina, an emu, who lays ten eggs and feels like she needs to find a job. "Yeek! said the man practically chocking. An emu doing ballet, you've got to be joking!" We loved the rhymes and ending to the book. Family is always most important. Little Donkey Close Your Eyes by Margaret Wise Brown: This book is a really cute bedtime story. Each page is a different mother animal telling her baby to close their eyes and fall asleep. My three loves donkeys, so I knew he'd love this book. The Empty Po...
